Melissa Cook has spent her entire business career
seeking out jobs that will satisfy her wanderlust. Various work
assignments have allowed for travel to Scandinavia, Western and
Eastern Europe, India, Turkey, China, Japan, Australia and Argentina
in addition to regular client visits throughout the US. Her current
full-time role calls for several trips to Asia each year. Vacations
in far-flung locales including Alaska, Russia, the mountain west of
the US and—most recently—Africa—have offered Melissa the chance to
explore her love of nature photography. Melissa is now combining her
passions for travel and photography with a strong interest in
supporting organizations that can make a difference in the lives of
people in less developed countries, including groups working in
nature and land conservation, education and women's causes.

Scene East’s greeting card business began with our first
trip to Africa. We fell in love with Africa’s wide-open spaces, its
people and its wildlife. We have returned several times, and plan to
keep going back as often as we can. Our business is designed to share
our photos of this magical place, while raising money to benefit worthy
causes.
We are pleased to be able to use our photography to
support groups in areas that are personally important to us, including
wildlife conservation, education, women’s causes and health care in the
developing world. We also offer fundraising products that can be sold
by other types of groups—schools, animal rescue, sports teams, affinity
groups—regardless of their mission.
Our card sales support Women for Women International, a
group devoted to helping women in war-torn countries get back on their
feet, become self-supporting and offer their children a chance at a
better life. We are also partnered with the Akanksha Foundation, an
Indian charity dedicated to improving the lives of less privileged
children, primarily through education. We also support buildOn,
which empowers people and transforms lives by partnering its
after-school programs in the U.S. with communities in developing
countries to build schools.
Our goal at Scene East is to keep traveling and taking
more beautiful photos. We aim to sell more and more high-quality
greeting cards—allowing us to broaden our support of the worthy
organizations listed above and to add new partners over time.

Some cards are assembled by
AHRC
Foundation Nassau, established in 1994 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization,
to ensure that regardless of budget cuts and changes in the political
and economic climate, compassionate, community-based programs for people
with developmental disabilities will continue, and future
generations will have an opportunity to be employed. |
